Make sure the diamond isn’t “blood” Diamond
So you’re looking to buy an engagement ring, and you want to make sure that the diamond is not a “blood” diamond. What’s a blood diamond?
Blood diamonds are those used by rebels or military forces to finance armed conflicts. They were named “blood” because they are mined in war zones, where innocent civilians are killed. The Kimberly Process was developed in order to prevent this from happening again. The process tracks diamonds from their origin all the way through their distribution channels so that no one can erase where the diamonds came from or who purchased them (and therefore how they were used).
In order for your diamond purchase to be considered conflict-free, it must come with documentation proving this fact (called a certificate). If you don’t receive one of these certificates with your purchase, then chances are good that your ring isn’t actually conflict-free!
Make sure the diamond is GIA certified
The GIA Certified Diamond Grading report is the most trusted certification in the industry. It’s important that your diamond be certified and graded by the GIA because it’s the most respected, trusted, and well-known authority in this field.
If you can afford it, you should definitely purchase a GIA certified diamond engagement ring as these diamonds come with an extensive guarantee that covers everything from color to clarity to cut.
The only time I would recommend going for an EGL certified diamond is if you are on a tight budget or need something fast (EGL can certify a diamond much faster than GIA).
Check the Certificate of Authenticity
A certificate of authenticity is one of the most important documents you need to acquire when purchasing a diamond engagement ring. This document proves that the stone you are buying is genuine and has been tested for quality. It contains important information about the diamond, such as its weight and cut (shape), which helps you verify that your sparkler won’t be dull or cloudy in a few years’ time.
Certificates of authenticity are also important for insurance purposes; if something happens to your ring outside of regular wear and tear, having proof that it’s real will help make sure you get reimbursed by your insurer.
Make sure your diamond vendor has good reviews
When you’re shopping for diamonds, it’s important to pay attention to reviews—because they can tell you a lot about the quality of a particular diamond vendor.
Reviews are a great source of information because they are usually honest and come from real customers who have purchased and used the product in question. They will give you an idea of what customers like (and don’t like) about your chosen jeweler, which can be helpful when making a decision on what type of ring or jewelry you want to buy.
When looking at reviews: Read the dates on the reviews – if there are many recent ones without much older ones, this could indicate that those positive reviews were posted by employees or friends/family members instead of actual customers; Look at how many stars were given – if each review has 5 stars then that might mean that no one had anything negative to say; Check out how many bad experiences there were compared with good ones, as this is often indicative of whether or not an experience was positive overall; Look at how detailed each review is written – if someone took time out of their day to write something lengthy about their experience then chances are good that it was worth remembering; See if any patterns emerge – for example if most reviewers mention being satisfied with communication between themselves and their jeweler but others complain about lack thereof (or vice versa).
Look out for additional charges
- When purchasing a diamond, you will probably be asked to sign a contract. The contract will include all charges that are not included in the purchase price. Make sure you understand everything that is included and what is left out of your purchase price. Make sure to ask about delivery charges, insurance, and interest rates if applicable before signing anything!
- Diamonds can be expensive, so make sure you are aware of all charges involved with buying them before committing to anything.
These factors are important to consider before purchasing a diamond
Before purchasing a diamond, it’s important to consider the following factors:
- Charges. Make sure you’re not paying for unnecessary extras that increase your bill. A classic example is “assurance,” which is basically insurance coverage against loss and theft during shipping. If you have purchased your diamond online, this is usually included; otherwise, it’s usually worth opting out of (unless you’re worried about losing your purchase). It’s also important to remember that most vendors will offer some kind of warranty on their products, so make sure there are no hidden fees associated with breaking any part of that contract before signing off on anything!
- Certificate of authenticity. With all this being said about how much money should go into buying a diamond engagement ring for someone special in life—you definitely want to buy something authentic! The best way to ensure this? Check if there are any discrepancies between what size/shape/color etc., etc.,etc…
