The artifact, a golden pendant shaped like a serpent, was stolen from the site in 1998. It was purchased by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and has been on display for years. The Turkish government, after years of negotiations, has finally secured the return of the artifact.

The necklace was discovered in 1978 by a local farmer in the Bintepeler Necropolis Area. The farmer, who was digging for a well, unearthed the necklace. The necklace was then taken to the local museum, where it was initially displayed. The necklace was later transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1980.
